Website’s Golf Tip of the Week: ‘Never Ask your Friends for Advice About your Golf Swing,’ says golfersadvice.com.
Austin, TX. (PRWEB) November 14, 2011
If your golf swing seems to be on life support these days, the last thing you want to do is start asking for… or listening to your friend’s golfing tips and advice. That’s the “Golf Tip of the Month” offered by, ironically enough, an online instructional and golf news destination called golfersadvice.com.
“If you even hint as if you’re struggling with an area of your game, look out! You’ll quickly discover that everybody knows exactly what you’re doing wrong, and will start peppering you with golf swing tips guaranteed to fix those duck hooks or slices,” said senior golfersadvice.com writer Joe Brown. “The bottom line is, when somebody else is struggling with their game – everybody instantly becomes a golf pro.”
According to Brown, the best thing to do is keep your “on course” swing issues to yourself, “though that can be easier said than done when you’re buzzing the heads of folks playing on the adjacent fairway, or shanking the ball into the woods,” he laughed. “However, even if you’re desperate for a few golf swing tips from your playing buddies, try to resist the urge to ask, because that’s all anybody will be talking to you about for the rest of the day.”
Brown points out that even top professional golfers are notorious for offering unsolicited golf swing tips to their colleagues. “I can’t even count the number of professional golfers who publicly have given Tiger Woods tips via the press, and this is a guy who has amassed 14 majors in his career!”
Okay, then what does Brown think that people should do if they’re game is out of sorts? “Let me clarify, I’m not saying that people shouldn’t ask for putting, chipping or golf swing tips from a professional golfing instructor – just not from their playing buddies, and especially not in the middle of a round. And if you do, it’s always a good idea to consider their motivation for sharing their amazing, life-changing golf swing tip – like perhaps a $ 200 carryover Nassau!”
Robin Pledge, a sought-after certified fitness instructor in Southern California, who works with athletes and weekend warriors alike in all aspects of sport-centric training – from golf to softball – agrees that by mentioning asking for advice about your game is opening the flood gates to an endless loop of unwanted tips and suggestions.
“It’s easy to become overwhelmed by the instructional advice from well-meaning friends,” says Pledge, who recorded a hole-in-one in only her fifth time golfing. “I recommend to my clients to first seek out a golf professional for one-on-one instruction to iron out the kinks. Or, if time is an issue, as it is with so many of my clients, focus only on advice and golf swing tips that address your specific issues and try not to makeover your entire swing.”
Robin coaches her clients to read articles in golf magazines, or on online golf websites that make sense, and can be easily implemented not only at the driving range, but on the course after just a few practice sessions. “Stick with what you’re working on for a number of weeks before you add another component to your swing, but above all, don’t let others distract you from your goal with tons of tips. Trust me, they have their own hooks and slices to worry about.”
Brown, who writes a monthly feature at golferstips.com focused on golf swing tips, has a final word advice for those people who can’t resist giving golfing advice to others. “It doesn’t matter how much your playing partner is begging you for a tip about what they might be doing wrong with their swing, don’t give any. Just be positive, compliment a struggling friend on the good shots and remember – no good deed goes unpunished.”
